D
Delay

Delay is a short buffer period granted after a player makes a move, before deduction from the main time begins.
How It Differs from Increment
- With increment, time is added afterward; with delay, there is first a brief waiting period.
- Unused delay does not accumulate in most systems.
- It is especially preferred in some local tournaments.
Delay gives the player a small amount of breathing room per move, even in very short games.
