Domination is when a piece or group of pieces controls an opponent's piece to the point of near immobility.

Where is it seen?

• Trapping a knight in a corner is a classic example.
• It can combine with cutting off the king in rook endgames.
• Sometimes a bishop and pawn structure together establish domination.
