I
Isolated Pawn

An Isolated Pawn is a pawn that has no friendly pawns supporting it in adjacent columns. The most common example is isolated queen's pawn structures.
Advantages and Disadvantages
- Can provide open lines and active piece play.
- Becomes harder to defend as the game progresses into the endgame.
- Squares in front of it can become outposts for the opponent.
An isolated pawn is not a weakness on its own; what matters is whether that pawn is compensated for by active piece play.
