Threefold Repetition

Threefold Repetition is the right to claim a draw when the same position occurs three times with the same piece placement, the same side to move, and the same special rights.
Points to Watch
- Not only the arrangement of the pieces, but also the side to move must be the same.
- Castling and en passant rights are also part of the position.
- The player usually claims the draw to obtain it.
Perpetual check and repeated defensive maneuvers are the situations in which this rule is most commonly seen in practice.
