A new step toward coaching in Artvin and Hatay
The Turkish Chess Federation has planned the Level 1 Assistant Coach Practical Course in Artvin and Hatay between 14-18 May 2026. This program represents an important stage for candidates who want to take their first step into a coaching career in chess. Its value is especially high in terms of training assistant coaches who will work in grassroots development, clubs, and school programs, helping children gain fundamental chess knowledge.
Candidates who wish to apply must meet the requirements set out under the Coaching Education Regulation of the General Directorate of Sports Services. Accordingly, applications will be accepted from those who have taken and passed the Level 1 Basic Education exam organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Türkiye. In addition, graduates of Faculties of Sports Sciences and Schools of Physical Education and Sports who are exempt from basic education through an equivalency application may also apply. This framework aims to ensure both regulatory compliance and the quality of chess instructors.
The application criteria include not only academic and administrative qualifications, but also the requirement that the candidate must not have a physical or mental condition preventing the continuous performance of coaching duties. For candidates with disabilities, participation will be determined by the decision of the federation’s relevant health board. In addition, applicants must not have convictions related to certain serious offenses or unethical conduct in sport, and they must not have received major disciplinary penalties in recent years. This approach is intended to preserve the spirit of chess as a sport built on fair play, discipline, and the model identity expected from athletes and coaches alike.
Level 1 Assistant Coach education is not merely a process of obtaining a certificate; it is also an opportunity to build competence in chess pedagogy, beginner-level teaching methods, tournament structure, athlete-parent communication, and basic technical training habits. As the role of coaches in spreading chess at the grassroots level in Türkiye becomes more important each year, these courses in Artvin and Hatay are also expected to contribute to regional chess development. For candidates aiming to work in school chess, club programs, and provincial-level organizations, this training process will open an important door.
