NM Muhammed Sinan Gönüllü reached the top in rapid and blitz in the U.S.
One of the successful names in Turkish chess, NM Muhammed Sinan Gönüllü, achieved a remarkable success at the Ocean State Rapid & Blitz Championship held in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. In the event played on Saturday, March 14, our national player captured first place in both the rapid and blitz categories, celebrating a double championship. Finishing at the top in two different time controls at an international tournament highlighted not only the player’s technical quality, but also his high level of concentration and consistent performance.
In the rapid section of the tournament, Gönüllü scored 4.5 points, standing out with his solid understanding of the game in this longer time control. In the blitz category, he reached 8 points, demonstrating his superiority in quick decision-making, tactical awareness, and time management. In chess, achieving success in different time controls such as rapid and blitz is considered an important measure of how well-equipped a player is not only in opening preparation, but also in middlegame planning and endgame technique.
Especially in recent years, individual successes achieved in international tournaments have reflected the expanding competitive strength of Turkish chess. Muhammed Sinan Gönüllü’s double championship in the U.S. stands out as one of the valuable examples of this rise. Competing abroad against different types of players both increases athletes’ practical strength and contributes to their international experience. From this perspective, the result in Rhode Island represents not only a tournament victory, but also a meaningful gain for the visibility of Turkish chess.
The performance delivered by our NM-titled player also offered an inspiring picture for young chess players. Reaching the top step of the podium in both rapid and blitz once again showed how powerful the results can be when disciplined work is combined with tournament experience. We congratulate Muhammed Sinan Gönüllü on this important achievement, which was also praised by the Turkish Chess Federation, and look forward to seeing him make his mark with new results on the international stage.
