The International Chess Federation (FIDE) and the Venezuelan Chess Federation, in cooperation with the Ministry of People's Power for Sport, have officially announced an extension of the registration deadline for the upcoming FIDE World Junior U20 Championship. Set to take place in the capital city of Caracas from November 17 to 28, this prestigious event will bring together the brightest young talents in the chess world.
New Deadline for Registration and Visa Support: October 30
Following an agreement with the Venezuelan organizers, the deadline for registrations—which also includes requests for visa support—has been pushed back from October 16 to October 30. This extension provides national federations and young players with crucial extra time to finalize their travel arrangements and administrative procedures. All entries must be submitted directly through the respective National Federations using the official tournament registration form.
Participation Rights and Safety Protocols
Under FIDE regulations, each member federation is entitled to register up to two invited players (one for the Open section and one for the Girls category). Additionally, players who hold personal participation rights based on prior achievements are also eligible to compete as invited participants. National federations may send extra players to the championship at their own expense.
Historically, the World Junior Championship has served as a vital stepping stone for future chess legends, having crowned iconic Grandmasters (GMs) such as Garry Kasparov, Viswanathan Anand, and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov. Working in close coordination with FIDE, the Organizing Committee in Caracas has reaffirmed its strong commitment to the well-being, safety, and comfort of all players and visitors by implementing comprehensive local protocols.
