Registrations Open for the 12th Cesme International Open Chess Tournament
The registration process has officially begun for the 12th Cesme International Open Chess Tournament, organized in cooperation with the Turkish Chess Federation and the Municipality of Cesme. One of the most notable events on Turkey’s summer chess calendar, the tournament will take place from 29 June to 5 July 2026. Over the years, the Cesme event has become a traditional meeting point for both local masters and international players, and this year it is once again set to offer the atmosphere of a highly competitive open tournament.
Before the main event begins, chess enthusiasts can look forward to a packed and fast-paced schedule. The International Rapid Chess Tournament, to be held on 27-28 June 2026, will give players a chance to sharpen their form and find their rhythm before the classical rounds start. Another highlight of the program will be the Blitz Chess Tournament on 3 July 2026. As a result, Cesme will host not only classical chess but also exciting rapid and blitz competitions, turning the event into a full-scale chess festival.
According to the federation’s announcement, applications for the rapid and open tournaments opened on 1 April 2026 and will remain available until 25 June 2026 at 21:00. Players wishing to compete in the blitz event may complete their registrations until 2 July 2026 at 21:00. Competitors are strongly advised to review the official tournament regulations carefully, especially the sections covering pairings, eligibility requirements, rating criteria, and technical procedures. In open tournaments, registering in the correct section and completing all license-related formalities on time are essential for a smooth organizational process.
One of the most striking aspects of this major 9-day event is its prize structure. A total of 1,100,000 TL in prize money will be distributed in the 12th Cesme International Open Chess Tournament, further underlining the event’s growing prestige. Such a substantial prize fund is expected to attract both titled players and ambitious young competitors, while also strengthening the international visibility of Turkish chess.
