Renato Terry Reached The Top In Freestyle Friday, Bortnyk Strengthened His Lead

International Master Renato Terry delivered a शानदार performance in the second week of the Freestyle Friday Championship on February 27 and claimed victory. Terry finished on top with an impressive 9.5/11, further intensifying the competition in the early stages of the championship. Last week's winner, Grandmaster Oleksandr Bortnyk, finished second with 8.5/11, but continued to hold the championship lead with 17 total points, sending a clear message to his rivals. In the women's category, Grandmaster Alexandra Kosteniuk once again held on to first place, consolidating her lead with 20 points and moving well ahead in the women's championship.

Through the first five rounds of the event, no grandmaster managed to stay perfect, while International Master Terry and FIDE Master Artin Ashraf maintained 100% scores. However, Ashraf defeated Terry to take sole possession of first place at 6/6. That loss would be Renato Terry's only defeat of the tournament. Terry immediately rejoined the race for the lead after Grandmaster Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son beat Ashraf in a hard-fought game. In particular, the seventh-round clash between Nguyen and Ashraf was a thriller, as both players dropped below 10 seconds on their clocks by move 30; however, Nguyen managed the final 30 moves better and scored a critical win.

In the key eighth-round pairings, Ashraf faced Orimi and Terry played Nguyen. Terry and Ashraf came through relatively comfortably and once again shared the lead on 7/8. Since they had already played each other earlier, they could not be paired again in that round. Terry then defeated FIDE Master Maxim Borisov, who was trailing on 6.5/8, to move into sole first place. At the same time, championship leader Oleksandr Bortnyk, playing from a 6/8 score, defeated Ashraf for his third straight win and moved into second place on 7/9. Bortnyk's accuracy in that game, close to 98%, showed just how strong his form was and reinforced his credentials in the title race.

With these results, the excitement in the Freestyle Friday Championship continues at a high level. Oleksandr Bortnyk remains the strong leader in the overall standings, while Renato Terry's victory this week has made the race for the title even tighter.
