TSF Education Board Meets in Ankara to Set the Roadmap for the New Term
The Education Board of the Turkish Chess Federation convened in Ankara on 4-5 April 2026 to review the work carried out during the 2025-2026 activity period and determine the priorities for the next term. During the meetings, attended by Education Board Chairman Gürkan Aydeniz and board members, the federation’s ongoing training activities were examined from multiple angles, with special emphasis on strengthening the grassroots structure and making educational quality more balanced across the country.
The main agenda items included coach education processes, updating the content of seminars and courses, identifying the needs seen in current practices, and planning projects for the upcoming period. It was emphasized that chess should be evaluated not only through tournament success, but also through its contribution to disciplined thinking, decision-making skills, and the cognitive development of children. In this context, developing training models suitable for different age groups and player levels is seen as essential, as is creating a stronger link between coaches’ field experience and central planning.
The board also discussed inter-institutional cooperation and ongoing protocols. It was noted that continued coordination with stakeholders, especially the Ministry of National Education, plays a critical role in expanding chess more broadly in schools and ensuring the sustainability of training programs. The federation aims to make the educational side of its work more systematic, building on an approach that has increased the number of licensed players and supported local organizations in recent years.
The Ankara meeting was not only an assessment of the period left behind, but also a strategic effort to define the roadmap for the coming term. Following this meeting, further steps are expected to become clearer in spreading chess to the grassroots, supporting talented players with proper training at an early age, and building a better-equipped pool of coaches. The framework put forward by the Education Board stands out as an important sign of the federation’s goal to advance sporting success and educational vision together.
